Financial Ombudsman Service
An independent service that settles complaints between financial businesses and their customers, free of charge.
Last reviewed: [Month Year]
What it is
The Financial Ombudsman Service is the UK's official independent body for resolving disputes between consumers and financial firms. It looks at both sides of a complaint impartially and decides what it considers fair in the circumstances. Its service is free to consumers.
When you can use it
You can normally refer a complaint to the Ombudsman if:
- you have already complained to us and received our final response, or the time we are allowed to respond has passed;
- you refer the matter to them within six months of the date of our final response;
- you fall within the categories of complainant the Ombudsman is able to help, which include most individuals and smaller businesses, charities and trusts.
If you have not yet complained to us, please see our complaints procedure first — we would much rather have the chance to put things right ourselves.
How to contact them
Full details, including their current contact information and the types of complaint they can consider, are available on their website: financial-ombudsman.org.uk.
Referring a complaint to the Ombudsman does not affect your right to take legal action.
